Duruflé’s ‘Requiem’ featured soloists Patrick Owston [baritone], Stephen Orton [cello], Veronica Gilbert [soprano] and our outstanding organist Linden Innes-Hopkins.
After the interval we sang two short pieces Wesley’s ‘Thou wilt keep him’ and Peter Brown’s ‘For the fallen’.
The concert ended with R. Vaughan Williams’ ‘Five Mystical Songs’. Patrick’s voice in the first four songs conveyed the poet’s emotions, revealing profound spirituality and reverence.
Thank you to all our wonderful soloists and a special thanks to our musical director Peter Brown.

After another year of being a member of ADCS, singing wonderful music, keeping contact with friends and the privilege of sharing the joy of singing to audiences who come along to support us, it was special to end the year with an event where we could meet new friends and have new challenges!
Thank you to everyone who made it happen.

Our Spring Concert was a special event and the audience enjoyed the evening and the glorious acoustics in St Paul’s. The four soloists were superb and they seemed to revel in the quality of each other’s singing.
The ‘Nelson’ Mass is indeed a masterpiece for troubled times.
Many thanks to our exceptional organist Linden who was amazing throughout and to our fabulous musical director, Peter. It was a stunning and exhilarating concert.

What a special concert to finish the year with the wonderful acoustics of St Paul’s. So many people said how good it was to hear new carols as well as being able to join in old favourites.
Linden’s solos were stunning, as were her subtle accompanying. Thank you to our gifted organist, Linden Innes-Hopkins and to our very accomplished musical director Peter Brown.
Happy Christmas and New Year to you all and hopefully see you in January!

We opened our remembrance celebration with Peter Brown’s ‘In Flanders Fields’ and continued with motets by Duruflé and Stanford. The final work, Poulenc’s ‘Gloria’, is full of contrasts and was stunningly exciting. The music and singing were very well appreciated; some in the audience felt that it was the best concert they had been to by ADCS.
Thank you to our soprano soloist Veronica Gilbert whose excellent performance showed poise and confidence and to Linden Innes-Hopkins for her wonderful organ playing throughout and lastly thanks to our very gifted musical director Peter Brown.

The Summer concert contained works inspired by settings of the ‘Magnificat’. ADCS welcomed our new organist, Linden Innes-Hopkins who gave her first brilliant solo, a majestic piece by Flor Peeters. We have had a wonderful year singing together and this collection had some sublime moments and was a glorious way to spend a warm summer evening.
The audience enjoyed the various smaller choral pieces and Sir John Rutter’s ‘Magnificat’. Technically it was a very good concert with wonderful music. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere afterwards as everyone enjoyed the wonderful canapés and summer drinks. Thank you to Peter and Linden. Enjoy your summer break!

The Spring concert saw ADCS say goodbye to its marvellous organist, Alan Gidney, with the performance of Cherubini’s ‘Requiem’ which Alan gave on his first collaboration with the choir in November 2010. Peter was very pleased with the controlled hushed singing and dramatic outbursts and the choir really enjoyed singing this lovely piece which for many is a forgotten treasure.
The audience enjoyed the various choral pieces of the second half and the two solo pieces by Karg-Elert brilliantly played by Alan. It was an emotional concert with some sublime music. Thank you to Peter our superb musical director and a final thank you to Alan Gidney. We will miss you so much.
